A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a 12-month contract within the role of Volunteer Support Manager West to support branches and service committees at SSAFA, the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.

      About the role

Based at home with frequent travel across the regions and to London, you will provide regular support with recruitment, engagement and associated activities to our volunteer officers across the regions. Building relationships with SSAFA branches and service committees alongside representatives of military and other charities will be essential.

In addition, you will be a member of the team developing best practice guidance and tools to be used across the volunteer network of some 5,500 volunteers, making SSAFA a truly volunteer led organisation.

      Requirements

To carry out this role successfully you will have a passion for working with volunteers and a commitment to volunteer delivered services. Whilst a military background is not essential it would be an advantage, however previous experience of working with volunteers is preferred, along with an understanding of their motivation.

Previous experience of supporting volunteer groups, preferably in recruitment, the development and embedding of best practice, external awareness raising and the ability to prioritise a wide range of competing demands are key to the success in this post. Additionally, the confidence to present to a wide range of influential audiences is essential.

SSAFA is an employer that values the diversity of its workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Happy spouses

RFS was...a platform for spouses who understood my struggles and my challenges. It felt like I came to them in pieces, deflated and very defeated and they (RFS) pieced me back together.

The competency amongst the military spouse community is unbelievably good and the fact all our candidates were happy with remote working made this ideal for us as a small business.

I found the course to be an excellent refresher of the skills I used in my previous roles, and also a confidence booster to me, proving that I can do it again
