Championing Military Spouses for Career Success

RFS was a platform for spouses who understand my struggles and challenges. It felt like I came to them in pieces, deflated, and very defeated, and they (RFS) pieced me back together.

Finding work as a military spouse has its unique challenges, but because AMS recognizes the skills that we bring, I have been able to find employment that has helped me to find a career, not just a job.

I was at a point in my career where I was looking for a new challenge. Thanks to RFS, I was able to find it through a Recruiter Upskilling Programme. I successfully completed an 8-week training and am now in AMS TechSkilling, applying what I learned in the training in my new role within AMS.

Kate reached out to RFS after listening to our podcast with Virgin…."I’m a PR and Communications Manager at Virgin Red. Quite simply, the opportunity to work at Virgin through Recruit for Spouses has opened doors for me that I thought had closed. As a military spouse with two young children, living away from my extended family in various military communities in the UK and overseas - always a long way from a city centre - my PR career has taken lots of twists and turns as I tried to keep it on track while juggling family life. This role at Virgin is a dream come true and means my career goals are back within reach.

Helen’s husband used to serve in the Royal Marines but in 2014 he was medically discharged.

Keen to still work from home, Helen has landed her dream job with Virgin Red: “I never dreamed I’d be doing this. I owe so much to Recruit for Spouses and Virgin Red for helping me to get my foot in the door and opening up a whole new career for me. What they are doing for military spouses is just brilliant. My role is fully remote and while I love going into the office to see people when I can, the reality is I wouldn’t be doing this job if I had to commute into London everyday.

More importantly, I wanted to reach out and thank you and the team, without your help and support I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am today, applying for a job outside of RFS was scary and a little daunting however it’s been great! I have a career and a plan, being able to find myself a career whilst being a military spouse has been the best thing ever ❤️

Ella, your positivity and proactivity were so energising right from our very first meeting. We both inhabit very different employment worlds, but throughout each of our sessions, you empowered me to approach challenges with confidence in a way that was incredibly relatable, and you always connected the dots in our experiences, which really helped me grow in self-belief in my role at GiftRound.

Richard is a fantastic mentor and I've enjoyed the chats we had, which have increased my confidence and got me thinking about how my values will feed into my future roles. Thank you also for helping me to navigate the sudden posting change to Brunei halfway through the course, which completely changed the direction of our conversations.

Lulua has provided structure and focus and has a gift for a particular type of listening that allows a person to ignite their own thinking. She has been an energising force to spend time with and I am excited for all her future positive impact.
